Get to Know Us
The Harvard Undergraduate Austrian German Association provides a welcoming and supportive space for students with a German educational or cultural background in order to share experiences of American culture and as Harvard students, including discussions of specific challenges associated with being a German Harvard College student, such as the transition from a German educational system to an American one.
HUAGA thus focuses on welcoming Harvard freshmen and exchange students from German universities by providing them with a network of students who have gone through a similar process and on whom they can rely for advice and support in administrative, cultural, and social matters.
The Association helps German students stay in touch with their home country by having a home community away from home, while fully involved in their life at Harvard.
Additionally, the Association serves as a forum for discussion about German politics, current events, and the like. To fulfill this mission, HCGSA will hold welcoming events for newcomers at the beginning of the school year, pairing them with upperclassmen, as much as possible from a similar background, and familiarizing them with the broader Harvard campus and with Cambridge and Boston. Bi-weekly dinners will foster a sense of community and provide a supportive network for all members. We also aim to build a strong alumni network of German Harvard College graduates. HUAGA graduates could then help current college students plan for future academic and professional opportunities back in Germany or Europe in general.
